TAX ASSISTANCE!!

AARP TAX-AIDE PROGRAM

During tax season, the library assists local residents by scheduling free Tax Assistance using AARP Tax Aides. In 2008, on Fridays, beginning February 8 to April 11, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. we scheduled reservations in 1 hour blocks. This allowed for an orderly process, without excess wait times.

IRS FORMS AND PUBLICATIONS

A limited supply of tax forms and publications are made available in the library's front lobby beginning late January or early in February. Additional forms are available online and may be downloaded at home or in the library.

ECONOMIC STIMULUS ACT OF 2008 - Deadline for filing is October 15, 2008
(for people who do not have to file a 2007 tax return).
Call the IRS hotline at 1-866-234-2942 for help.

The Internal Revenue Service website provides an Economic Stimulus Calculator to help you determine whether you're eligible for a stimulus payment and how much you can expect to receive. AARP also has an online Stimulus Payment Tool that asks you a few questions and then fills in the 1040A tax form for you, using information you provide.

MUSEUM PASSES

The purpose of our Museum Pass Program is to help make museum experiences accessible to our West Hempstead patrons.  This year, all of the museums participating in our program have provided the Library with Family Passes that may be borrowed and returned, similar to a book.
Only West Hempstead Library cardholders (age 18 or older) who are in good standing may request these passes.  Residents of the district who do not presently own a library card need to apply for one in order to participate in this valuable program that offers free entry to a variety of metropolitan cultural institutions.
Come to the Reference Desk to learn more about our Museum Pass program.
