Director's Message
Greetings!
So far we have been fortunate to have had a very nice spring and the beautiful weather has brought many people into the library. As they say “this place has been a-hoppin!” With hard economic times upon us, libraries are in more demand than ever. Our internet computers are always busy; patrons are using them to search for jobs and create resumes. In addition to our print and non-print collections, we have many cultural, educational and craft programs for people of all ages.
The Friends of the Library had a very successful book and bake sale in mid-May. Thank you to all of our “Friends” and community members who came down and supported this very worthwhile fund-raiser. At this time, the Friends Executive Board is in need of members. Won’t you consider donating some of your time to this important organization? The Friends meet on the first Monday of the month, from September through June, at 7:30 p.m. in the library board room.
THANK YOU to the members of the West Hempstead Rotary Club who participated in our National Library Week read-aloud in April. Rotary Club members read to our children and provided refreshments to those in attendance.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the library staff and myself, I would like to offer a big THANK YOU to Rosalie Norton and the West Hempstead Community Support Association for their generous donation of benches and planters which are outside the library. They were sponsored by members of the community and the Association and we are proud to be the recipient of these beautiful items. I have observed many library patrons sitting on the benches, especially on beautiful, warm days. I am sure that they will be enjoyed for years to come.
Details of the dedication of the fountain in front of the library will be forthcoming.
Enjoy the summer! Come to the library to cool off and read a newspaper, magazine or a book and just sit back and relax. We would love to see you!
