American writes Finnish mystery

I just finished reading a very interesting debut mystery set in Finland but written by an American. James Thompson, a native of Kentucky, has written "Snow Angels," a mystery featuring Inspector Kari Vaara who lives in the Lapland region of Finland.

A beautiful Somali immigrant is found dead in a snowfield - mutilated in a disturbing way. Vaara, the lead detective of the small-town police force, must determine if this is a hate crime, a sex crime or both.

Vaara finds his past keeps haunting him throughout the investigation including the fact that one of his suspects is the man for whom his ex-wife left him for years ago.

For those who like Scandanavian mystery writers, definitely pick up "Snow Angels." I think you will enjoy it.
