Birthday of James Patterson

James Patterson, a prolific writer, was born on March 22, 1947 in Newburgh, NY and currently lives in Palm Beach, FL. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Edgar Allan Poe Award from the Mystery Writers of America and the ThrillMaster Award from the International Thriller Writers. Over 220 million copies of his books have been sold worldwide.

You may have read or heard about his many series, including Alex Cross, Women's Murder Club and Michael Bennett Mysteries. He also has a science fiction oriented thriller series, Maximum Ride, written for younger readers.

People have asked Patterson about his Alex Cross character. How can a white man write about an African American? Patterson's grandparents owned a small restaurant whose cook was African American. He spent a lot of time with her and her family and decided to write about that culture.

Come to the library and take out a James Patterson book. See what everyone's talking about! WHPL has his novels, sound recordings, and Large Print books.
