Agatha Award winners announced

The winners of the 2010 Agatha Awards were recently announced at the Malice Domestic convention in Bethsda, MD. The awards honor the "traditional mystery" style.

New bestsellers for May

Bestselling authors Robert B. Parker, James Patterson and Richard North Patterson have new books available.

Sixkill, by the late Robert B. Parker, is the last book in the Spencer series. On location in Boston, bad-boy actor Jumbo Nelson is accused of the rape and murder of a young woman. The Boston PD call on Spenser to investigate. Jumbo was his studio's biggest star, but he's become their biggest liability. In the course of the investigation, Spenser encounters Jumbo's bodyguard: a young Native American named Zebulon Sixkill. Sixkill acts tough, but Spenser sees something more in the young man. The two forge an unlikely alliance, with Spenser serving as mentor for Sixkill. Birthday of Barbara Taylor Bradford

Barbara Taylor Bradford, the romance author, was born on May 10, 1933 in England and moved to the United States in 1963. Her books feature strong women who succeed against all odds.

She has written 27 bestsellers and is hard at work on her next book, entitled Letter From a Stranger. Over 82 million copies of Bradford's books have been sold and they have been translated into more than 40 languages. Ten of her novels have been adapted as TV miniseries.

Lawrence Block to appear at Book Revue

Mystery writer Lawrence Block will appear at the Book Revue in Huntington on FRIDAY, May 20 at 7 p.m. to speak about and sign his new book A Drop of the Hard Stuff.

A Drop of the Hard Stuff is the 17th novel in the Matthew Scudder series. Scudder is finally on the straight and narrow when he runs into "High-Low" Jack Ellery, a childhood friend from the Bronx. In Scudder, Jack sees the moral man he might have become. In Jack, Scudder sees the hard-won sobriety he hopes to achieve. Then Ellery is shot down while attempting to atone for past sins and Scudder is drawn into a murder investigation that threatens to upset his path toward recovery - and get him killed in the process.

75th Anniversary of Gone With the Wind

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell was published on May 19, 1936 and is one of the most popular novels in American History. It is the romantic story about the Civil War from the point of view of the Confederacy. The main character, Scarlett O'Hara, is a southern belle who survives the war and establishes a successful business. The book takes place in northern Georgia and details the life and relationships of Scarlett.

Gone With the Wind was the recipient of the 1937 Pulitzer Prize and the movie received ten Academy Awards.

New books by Steve Martini and Lisa See will be available on Tuesday, MAY 31.
