New bestsellers for June

New books by Clive Cussler, Ann Patchett and Robert Tanenbaum are now available.

The Kingdom, by Clive Cussler, is the third book in the Fargo Adventure series. The husband-and-wife team of Sam and Remi Fargo are used to hunting for treasure, but haven't hunted for people until an investigator friend of theirs goes missing. On a journey that takes them to Tibet, Nepal, China, Italy, and Siberia, the Fargos find themselves embroiled with black-market fossils, an ancient Tibetan kingdom, a lost landmass in the North Sea, Stone Age ostrich egg shards inscribed in a cryptic language and a pair of battles separated by thousands of miles and hundreds of years.

In State of Wonder, by Ann Patchett, an enigmatic scientist is developing a drug that could alter the lives of women for ever. Dr Annick Swenson refuses to report on her progress, especially to her investors. Anders Eckman, a lab researcher, is sent to investigate. A letter reporting his untimely death is all that returns. Now Marina Singh, Anders's colleague and a former student of Dr Swenson, is their last hope. Compelled by the pleas of Anders's wife, Marina leaves Minnesota to retrace her friend's steps into the heart of the South American darkness, determined to track down Dr. Swenson and uncover the secrets being guarded among the remotest tribes of the rainforest.

Outrage, by Robert Tanenbaum, is the 23rd book in the Butch Karp and Marlene Ciampi series. Felix Acevedo, a shy Bronx teenager, has just confessed to horrific crimes. District attorney Butch Karp must deal with an ambitious young assistant district attorney, seeking career advancement, who has cut corners to indict Acevedo. Now, damned by a coerced confession and a media bent on lynching him, Acevedo sits in jail while a vicious killer stalks the city. Karp's wife, Marlene Ciampi, hits the streets for clues that will save Acevedo. What she discovers puts her on the trail of a drug-addicted psychopath and a disgruntled police detective who is willing to lie, withhold evidence, and kill to be labeled a hero.
