Learn how you can improve the energy performance of your home and get the best benefits and incentives possible from State and utility energy efficiency programs!

The Long Island Green Homes (LIGH) Program provides residents the opportunity to save money, create jobs and to improve our environment by implementing energy efficiency improvements to their homes. Start by getting a comprehensive Home Energy Audit - it's free or at a reduced cost for most Long Islanders.

The LIGH program is a publicly-funded effort through a New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA).

Believing the Lie, by Elizabeth George, is the 17th book in the Inspector Lynley series. Lynley is mystified when he's sent undercover to investigate the death of Ian Cresswell at the request of the man's uncle, the wealthy Bernard Fairclough. The death has been ruled an accidental drowning but when Lynley enlists the help of his friends Simon and Deborah St. James, the trio's digging reveals the Faircloughs are awash in secrets and motives. Deborah's investigation of the prime suspect - Bernard's son Nicholas, a recovering drug addict - leads her to Nicholas's wife, a woman with whom she feels a kinship. Lynley and Simon search for information on the rest of the family, including the victim's bitter ex-wife and Bernard himself. As the investigation escalates, the Fairclough family's veneer cracks, with deception and self-delusion threatening to destroy everyone.

Local author Alyson Richman will be speaking at the Syosset Public Library this Friday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. She will be discussing her latest book, The Lost Wife, which was chosen as the 2012 Long Island Reads selection.

In The Lost Wife, Lenka, a young art student, and Josef, who is studying medicine, fall in love in prewar Prague. They marry but like so many others, they are torn apart by the war. Now a successful obstetrician in America, Josef has never forgotten the wife he believes died in the war. But Lenka survived, relying on her skills as an artist and the memories of a husband she would never see again. Then, decades later, an unexpected encounter in New York leads to an inescapable glance of recognition, and the realization that providence has given Lenka and Josef one more chance.

New books are now available by best-selling authors Dean Koontz, Robin Cook and Karen Robards.

77 Shadow Street, by Dean Koontz, is centered around the world of the Pendleton, a Gilded Age palace that's been converted into high-end condominiums. Its tenants feel lucky to live there yet its years have been colored by madness, kidnappings, murder, and strange, inexplicable accidents. But all of that is mostly unfamiliar to the people of the Pendelton. To them, their building is a sanctuary until it turns on them. Shadows with no source begin to skitter across the walls, voices whisper in unknown languages, security cameras show impossible feeds, and a little boy starts talking to an imaginary playmate. These are only a prelude to a terror that will fully engulf the tenants of Pendleton.

In Sleepwalker, by Karen Robards, Detroit police detective "Mick" Lange catches professional thief, Jason Davis, in the act of stealing big bucks from a mob boss's safe. He manages to embroil her in a crime so explosive it could cost both of them their lives. Natural adversaries, their only common ground is mutual dislike and distrust - and the fact that the same killers are now hunting them both. Sparks fly and passion flares as they run for their lives.

In Death Benefit, by Robin Cook, Wall Street whizzes turn their attentions from mortgages to the $25 trillion life-insurance industry. By securitizing the policies of the old and sick, they hope to make another financial killing. At the same time, Natalie Savondnik and Ronald Goodall - two medical residents - are working closely with their medical center's premier scientist on cutting-edge diabetes research. When their mentor dies suddenly, they launch an investigation. As they dig deeper, it becomes clear that the scientist's death was not from natural causes. Is it possible someone is manipulating life insurance information to allow investors to benefit from the deaths of others?

D.C. Dead, by Stuart Woods, is the 22nd book in the Stone Barrington series. Stone Barrington is at loose ends and is unsure if he wants to stay in New York and continue his work as a partner at Woodman & Weld. It comes as a welcome surprise when he's summoned to Washington, D.C., by President Will Lee. The president has a special operation that calls for Stone's unique skills and it's a mission that will reunite him with his former partner in crime, Holly Barker.

Covert Warriors, by W.E.B. Griffin, is the 7th book in the Presidential Agent series. There's an unholy alliance building across the Caribbean. Few in the U.S. government want to believe that a Third World country could pose a credible threat but then why are the Chinese helping to train its special forces? Why are the Russians helping to build a nuclear power plant? Charley Castillo and his men go in to investigate, but have no idea what they have just gotten themselves into. By the time they finish, they will be on the hit lists of the Kremlin, the Cubans, the Venezuelans, and the drug cartels - and totally out on their own.

New books are available from bestselling authors Michael Connelly and Patricia Cornwell.

The Drop, by Michael Connelly, is the 17th book in the Harry Bosch series. Harry Bosch has been given three years before he must retire from the LAPD, and he wants cases more than ever. In one morning, he gets two. DNA from a 1989 rape and murder matches a 29-year-old convicted rapist. Was he an eight-year-old killer or has something gone terribly wrong in the new Regional Crime Lab? Then Bosch and his partner are called to a death scene fraught with internal politics. Councilman Irvin Irving's son jumped or was pushed from a window at the Chateau Marmont. Working both cases, Bosch makes two discoveries: a killer operating unknown in the city for as many as three decades, and a political conspiracy that goes back into the dark history of the police department.

Red Mist, by Patricia Cornwell, is the 19th book in the Kate Scarpetta series.
Determined to find out what happened to her former deputy chief, Jack Fielding, murdered six months earlier, Kay Scarpetta travels to the Georgia Prison for Women, where an inmate has information not only on Fielding, but also on a string of killings. The murder of an Atlanta family years ago, a young woman on death row, and the inexplicable deaths of homeless people seem unrelated. But Scarpetta discovers connections that compel her to conclude that what she thought ended with Fielding's death and an attempt on her own life is only the beginning of something far more destructive - and she is the only one who can stop it.

In Micro, by the late Michael Crichton and Richard Preston, three men are found dead in the locked office of a Honolulu building, with razor-sharp cuts covering their bodies. The only clue left behind is a tiny bladed robot. In Cambridge, Massachusetts, seven graduate students at the forefront of their fields are recruited by a pioneering microbiology start-up. Nanigen MicroTechnologies dispatches the group to a mysterious lab in Hawaii, where they are promised access to tools that will open a whole new scientific frontier. But once in the Oahu rain forest, the scientists are thrust into a hostile wilderness that reveals profound and surprising dangers at every turn. Armed only with their knowledge of the natural world, they find themselves prey to a technology of radical and unbridled power.

Explosive 18, by Janet Evanovich, is the 18th book in the Stephanie Plum series. Before Stephanie can even step foot off Flight 127 from Hawaii to Newark, she's knee deep in trouble. Her dream vacation turned into a nightmare. Her seatmate never returned to the plane after the L.A. layover and now he's dead in a garbage can. His killer could be anyone. The FBI, the fake FBI, and guns-for-hire are all looking for a photograph the dead man was supposed to be carrying. Only one other person has seen the missing photograph - Stephanie Plum. Now she's the target, and she doesn't intend to end up in a garbage can. Over at the Bail Bonds Agency it's business as usual until the bonds bus serving as Vinnie's temporary HQ goes up in smoke, Stephanie's wheelman, Lula, falls in love with their 'largest' FTA yet and everyone wants to know what happened in Hawaii?

New books are now available by John Grisham and Danielle Steel.

In "The Litigators", by John Grisham, we are introduced to two middle-aged lawyers just getting by. Oscar Finley and Wally Figg qualify as ambulance chasers, specialists in DUIs, shoplifting defendants, and no-fault divorce cases. Then the arrival of burned out fast-track attorney David Zinc to the firm changes everything. Before long, they are taking on a real legal case, one that involves a $25 billion pharmaceutical corporation and a class action suit with infinite possibilities. What Finley and Figg don't realize is that their road to riches will pit them against a legal team not accustomed to losing.

In "Hotel Vendome", by Danielle Steel, Swiss-born Hugues Martin, a young, ambitious hotelier, buys a run-down hotel in Manhattan and transforms it into one of the world's finest luxury hotels. The Hotel Vendôme is soon renowned for its elegance, its efficiency, its unparalleled service and discretion. When his wife runs off with a rock star, Hugues is suddenly a single parent to four-year-old Heloise. As the years pass, Hugues and the hotel are the center of Heloise's life. She longs to follow in her father's footsteps and one day run the Vendôme with him. New challenges mark her way: an unexpected romance for Hugues and her own journey to hotel school in Switzerland. The lessons she has learned at her father's side will carry her through it all.
